Congratulations to Tony Carlo and Ben Villaret of Monsignor Farrell for their performance this past weekend at the Northeast Cadet Regional Championships. Tony took home double golds as he went a combined 8-0 in freestyle and greco roman - he also did not lose a period in the greco roman competition. Villaret was a combined 9-2 in the weekend placing 3rd in freestyle and 2nd in greco roman. Both wrestlers will be competing at the Cadet National Championships in Fargo, ND July 20th to the 26th.
This past year both sophomore wrestlers were NYC Mayors Cup champions and Villaret was a CHSAA State Champ. Congrats again on their year round wrestling success!!
Lions Wrestling Club win the Beat the Streets Fortress Duals by handily beating Roosevelt Island in the finals
The Lions Wrestling Club finished its dual meet season undefeated by winning the first Fortress Dual Meet Championships on May 3rd. The Lions defeated defending champions Baruch MS in the semifinals and then beat the Roosevelt Island Hawks in the championships. Down 12-0 in the final dual the Lions won every weight from 74 to 134 to clinch the victory. Chris Amendola, Blaise Rufo, Paul DiStefano, Paul Schiandicola, Alex Noonan, John Galan, Paul Hartnett, Tim McCann, and Will Wilson went undefeated in all season dual meets! Congrats to Coach Diforte, Stas, Hamm and Ironman for bringing home the title!
Lions Wrestling Club win BTS NYC title in the Small School Division and first overall
The future of Farrell Wrestling looks stronger and stronger each year. On May 17 at the Harlem Armory 33 Lions Grapplers competed in the 2nd Annual NYC Middle School Championships. 18 of the 33 are 8th graders who will be entering Msgr Farrell as freshmen next year! In the novice Division Dylan Dinolfo, Brandon Mendez, Matt Seitz took home gold medals, Anthony Amendola and Will Boadi placed 2nd, Angelo Pisani placed 3rd.
In the Fotress league the lions crowned 4 champions - Blaise Rufo, Paul DiStefano, Paul Schinadicola and John Galan! 2nd place finishes went to several of the younger Lions wrestlers - Mike Simon (4th grade), Karl Weisner (5th Grade), Will Wilson (7th grade). 8th graders Paul Hartnett and Alex Noonan also lost in the finals at 110 and 116. 3rd Place went to John Luke DeStefano (4th grade),Chris Amendola (7th Grade), Casey Redmond placed 4th. Tim McCann who was undefeated all season did not compete as he had a broken thumb but was still there to cheer on his teammates! The future is bright - keep up the hard work!

Farrell Wrestlers competing under Team Steeplechase (NYC) had another great NYS Tournament placing 5 wrestlers. Tony Carlo placed 3rd in Cadet Greco Roman and Freestyle (Cadet 145), Ben Villaret placed 3rd in Freestyle and 5th in Greco Roman (Cadet 140), Connor Hanafee placed 3rd in Greco Roman (Junior 130), Rich Beningo placed 4th in Freestyle (Junior 125) and Kevin Hartnett placed 6th in greco roman (Junior 140). Also competing for the Lions was Joe Francolino (Cadet 112), Marc Pirozzi (Cadet 112), Gunnar Rufo (Cadet 130), Christian Psomas (Junior 171). Tony Carlo, Ben Villaret and Connor Hanafee will compete in the Freestyle and Greco Roman Nationals in Fargo, ND from July 20-26th.
